GET YOUR SCHOOL OUT OF OBSCURITY AND GETTING INTO THE LIMELIGHT

GET YOUR SCHOOL OUT OF OBSCURITY

The number one greatest killer of business is when nobody knows the business exists.

When you run a school without you mapping out a way of getting the word of mouth about your school out, it is like a man trying to woo a woman by winking in the dark.

He can wink all he wants but as far as He is in the dark, the woman will never notice what He is doing.

When mapping out your events, always see it as a marketing tool, and use it as such.

What makes your events strategic?
1. It has an educative content to it.

2. It is used as an invitation tool for potential parents to witness your uniqueness
3. It is used to generate feedbacks and build new list of referrals from attendee of the event
4. It is used as a tool to build value in the minds of your parents, students and staffs continuously
5. It Is an avenue to showcase your school’s uniqueness.
6. It is an avenue to get and compile your list of testimonials…

Face your face

Does it happen to you that you don’t always know how to answer your students’ questions? Or maybe you have ever felt uncomfortable while teaching because you were worried whether your expertise in a topic is enough? *That’s OK!* Probable every teacher has experienced uncertainty at some stage of his/her work. Firstly, don’t let it discourage you or make you think you are a poor teacher. As it was mentioned, it happens to *everyone*. And secondly, *learn how to deal with it*. Here we present some pieces of advice on how to do it.

Remember that the fact you are a teacher doesn’t mean that you are bound to know *everything*. We are all humans and we can all lack knowledge sometimes. What you *should know*, however, is where to look for the information you need. It’s always worth knowing some valuable sources of information (e.g. the Internet, coursebooks, videos) that you can use to get the answer. Teach your students where they can look for sources as well.
*Face your fears*. Don’t avoid the field you don’t feel certain about. Become a *learner*! Explore the field together with your students, question and probe. The students can benefit from that too, when you learn alongside with them, as they have greater opportunity to actually experience the taught subject.
*Admit what you don’t know*. Once you do it, you can look for people who can help you. Maybe one of your colleagues is more experienced in an area you lack knowledge in. Ask for some guidance and materials.
*Use what you do know*. Recall what you know about teaching and learning strategies and use them when exploring a new area. Remember that you’re trained to teach and you possess many pedagogical tools.
*Observe other teachers*. Find those who have mastery of the subject or content you feel weak in. Watch how they conduct lessons, take notes, and let yourself ask them questions after a lesson.
*Before* you teach a subject, make sure you *understand* it. Only if you have comprehended it fully, you will be able to teach it properly. If you have to, slow down. Be prepared, but allow yourself to be a learner alongside your students.
*Seek professional development*. Remember that you can sign up for professional development *online* (such as webinars or online courses)!

If you want to help your students become active, independently thinking learners, you should sometimes stand in their shoes. Therefore, don’t despair when you see you lack skills- treat it as an opportunity to learn, to discover, to become a student again! Both you and them will benefit from such an approach.

We hope that having read those tips you will be even more “equipped” to implement critical thinking into your teaching. Do it with the help of our *Critical Thinking* course and enjoy *session 3*!

Three Centres for school development and enrollment expansion

Based on my personal experiences as a teacher for so many years, I, have come to this frank realization why most schools, despite the high level of financial commitments and moral supports from most proprietors or owners of school, such schools do not have any meaningful growth and expansion.

The reasons are not far fetched and these reasons are personally tagged by me as the Three Centres For School Development and Enrollment Expansion
1. CHILD CENTERED ACTIVITIES :  Most schools lack facilities that will entice and motivate students to always willing and interested in learning more and more. Learning has become a tug of war between students and teachers with teaching continously begging pupils to pay attention when some of them do not actually have the right stuff and materials to buy the pupils attention.
2. PARENTS CENTRED ACTIVITIES : There is this popular wise quote that says that "he that pays the piper dictates the tune" and this is relatively true to almost all profession or vocation. Am not saying that teachers should compromise principles or standards but all trying to say is that{ listen to your parents} as in the parents of pupils that are in your schools. Their complains, compléments and suggestions are great feedbacks which when properly treated can stimulate and motivate more parents to invite more pupils and other parents to your school thereby expanding enrollment number of your school.
3.  STAFF CENTRED ACTIVITIES : Even up till now I don't know why is it that staff welfare is a no go area for discussion between management of any schools and members of staff of such school. Teaching is spiritual and emotional….. Just like nursing… If you don't have passion for such job, am telling you that one will eventually be frustrated out of it. Now tell me why a teacher that is emotionally attached to the general well being of a child should not be taken good care of. I laugh when most school owners do face-lift of their schools by laying tiles or painting the walls of their school without really discussing their staff welfare. I laugh 😂 😂 😂. Walls and tiles don't make up a good school but the humans… When you have distributed enough flyers all over the whole places and you have done a lot of radio jingles but alas only for new parents and pupils to  come and meet teachers that are resentful, unappreciated, unapproachable or just frustrated because their needs,  demands or wants are not meet
They will soon frustrate other people too. And when parents are frustrated they will soon leave your school.. And remember evil with words of mouth spread like wild fire.
Treat your staff well.

When standards are lowered, individuals determine what is good and bad at their own convenience.

When standards are lowered, individuals determine what is good and bad at their own convenience.

Those who are *punctual* are mostly seen to *have nothing to do.*

Those who are *fair and firm* are mostly seen as *wicked.*

Those who are *silent on wrongdoings* are mostly seen as *good and caring.*

Those who are *obedient* to rules are normally seen as *cowards.*

Those who *insist on their rights* are mostly seen as *bad and difficult.*

Those who *discipline the deviant*, not the deviant, are seen as *bad and heartless*.

Those who *forgive* are mostly tagged *weak.*

Those who are *smart to deceive* people are mostly seen as *wise.*

*Do not just follow attractive, popular and convenient perceptions, just do what is right.*

God bless you!
